Fieldtrip to Eves Park

Eves Park is just outside Crofton - and I had no idea that it even exists! One of the ladies said that it was also called the "hidden jewel of the cowichan valley" - how appropriate.

Here are some of the pictures i took:

This is Lorna - she guided our group and what a fabulous job she did - she had a nice and quiet voice and the kids enjoyed listening to her stories and explanations.
Here we found out that Banana slugs are both - female and male - and, if you get slime on your hand it is best to let it dry and then just wipe off - do not use water - it makes the slime even slimier!!

This is a mushroom growing on a tree - with - what I assume - are sap drops - totally cool.

One of the girls in our group spotted this little guy - and Lorna thinks it is a little newt - so cute.

This is a gorgeous field of Vanilla flowers - it looked so much prettier in real life!

Just a little mushroom, all alone and all perked up - in the middle of the forest - with all the pretty moss around it - I love it.

But wait - what is this - right there on top of the mushroom - let's zoom in and see (sigh - how I would love to get a totally sharp picture - not matter how much you zoom in ):

Guess the mushroom was not all alone after all ;)

These little guys are centapedes (spelling?? I have no idea) - and apparently they are mating at the moment - so I excused myself and let them go on with their business without my flash interrupting them any further!

Last but not least - there was this really black guy - and no - this picture is not sideways- he/she was really standing up!

Fun fun times!!

Wow, what a cool place to check out. I'll have to remember that for the next time we're on the island.

A visit with slugs and bugs and mushrooms - not my idea of excitement, but you got some great pictures and learned lots of cool stuff.

I swear, it is a different world over there! Beautiful pictures! No spiders, so I'm good with all of them ;)
